This is Part 2 of a Post Series Introducing the TRIBE Builders that are getting started with the most recent round of The Artist’s Flight Formula. Be sure to check out Part 1, Part 3 and Part 4 of this series too.
The most fulfilling part of coaching and building TRIBES is seeing the diversity of gifts and strengths that people have to bring to the world. And then seeing those gifts come alive to serve needs in the world… just wow.
As you’ll see from the next several TRIBE Builder introductions, people come into the Artist’s Flight Formula with a wide range of starting points.
There is no such thing as an ideal starting point when it comes to offering your spark to the world.
Starting is a decision that needs to be made about right now, right where you are at.
How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world. – Anne Frank
Waiting around for the stars to align in your life is a recipe for feeling stuck… for a long time.
From small business craftsmen/women to world travellers/adventurers to savvy entrepreneurs, the program is designed to meet you where you are at, spark something fresh within you, even if you have no idea where to begin, or are well on your way toward your desired outcomes.
Please join me in cheering on these enthusiastic and adventurous TRIBE builders, by leaving a comment below!
I’m coming to this group during a time of uncertainty.
My family and I are living on our 34′ sailboat, Shannon, in the Puget Sound. For over 10 years now my wife Kelly and I have dreamed of selling all our stuff, moving onto a sailboat and cruising around North America. Well, in April we achieved our first goal of divesting ourselves of most of our belongings, moving aboard our sailboat and started to prepare for cruising.
In July we set out on our shakedown cruise and found out two very important things. First, Kelly and I love sailing a lot more than our kids do. Second, a 34′ sailboat is just too small for our kids.
So, we are now selling our boat and preparing to move back onto land.
As far as my background, I have been fortunate to experience a broad swath of life. I’ve been a Helicopter Pilot/Instructor, US Navy Search And Rescue Medical Technician, Snowmobile Tour Guide, Ski Lift Operator, Computer Programmer and Photographer. I’ve lived in the Colorado Rockies, Mojave Desert, Antarctica and have been to the South Pole.
Mike’s ONE Big Idea / Desires Support In:
The biggest challenge is that I have no idea what to do. Our dream and focus has been on cruising for so long that I never really considered an alternative. I figured that we’d be cruising for at least a couple of years and that I would have plenty of time to figure things out.
I’ve been blogging for a while now, but I haven’t written anything for way too long. I’m feeling lost and not sure how to proceed with this venture. I tried offering coaching as a method of connecting with readers and helping them, but I have received almost no interest up to this point. I’m hoping this group can help me either find my way with this blog, or help me figure out that it is time to start something new.
I live in Asheville, NC with my husband, Roger, and our 2 Maltese, Mischa and Bailey. I’m a native of Asheville and I can trace my roots here back to the 1700′s. I have been a solo-entrepreneur for over 20 years.
Whatever I’m doing, I take it seriously and give it my all. While I’m fairly easy-going and open to new things, I give 110+ percent to my work.
I have a wide variety of talents, knowledge, skills and experience that I will be happy to share with anyone who needs help with anything I know how to do. I know a lot about WordPress and can have a blog up and running in about 10 minutes – from acquiring the domain name to creating an account on my server to installing WordPress.
I love business – and I love the business of business. I love creativity and I love productivity. I use planners and charts to keep me on track. I have had an impressive amount of success in the past and fully expect to do so again in the future.
Teresa’s ONE Big Idea:
I am building the Center for Empowered Women. The idea is to reach out to women who are frustrated with not knowing who they are, what they want to do or think they can’t do it. The Center would work with women seeking empowerment – whether it’s business, health, finances, education or relationships – to teach them methods and techniques for claiming their empowerment.
My life’s purpose has become to give back as much as I possibly can.
I am creating a blog site to share my experiences with people who come from dysfunctional families. Most often, females are the ones who suffer most when the rest of the family is dysfunctional, but these women are wondering what’s wrong with them.
I am writing books on how to deal with dysfunctional families. I am creating programs to help people learn to empower themselves and not let their crazy relatives throw any more money wrenches in their lives.
Desires Support In:
- A solid connection to like-minded people who offer support for everyone’s endeavors.
- A Plan that can be reproduced for all of my projects and that I can teach to others.
- The opportunity to learn things from other members and to offer them the benefit of my experience, skills and knowledge.
I am passionate about creating beautiful items through the medium of wood.
I grew up around the construction trades, so I’ve just always been around wood.
The first time I mitered a corner trim joint together tightly, it changed my life forever. Since that point, I’ve been drawn to the detailed side of woodworking.
I went into business for myself as a trim carpenter, which then progressed to custom cabinetry.
My journey as a woodworker has now brought me to a smaller, more focused outlet. This was brought on by my first encounter with a finely tuned hand plane. After my first ultra-thin wood shaving, I was completely in love with hand tools.
Creating something with hand tools develops an intimacy with the wood that you can’t get any other way. It forces me to focus more intently on what I am doing, how I use the grain of the wood or what type of joinery I will use.
The pieces I sell are all results of this journey I’m on. Each piece is created with passion, focus, and a desire to learn something new. It is my hope that when one of these pieces ends up in your home, it will bring years of cherished enjoyment, beauty, and peace.
Scott’s ONE Big Idea:
I want to lead a revolution in woodworking in the same way the organic and natural food revolution has taken place in the past few years.
People have started to be much more concerned about the food they eat, in how it is produced, modified, transported, etc. I believe this needs to happen in regards to woodworking as well, whether it be something as simple as a picture frame, to a room full of custom made furniture, all the way to the homes we build.
Far too often, we sacrifice quality, longevity, responsible building practices, and even uniqueness on the alter of speed, convenience, and/or “new every two”. I want to inspire change in our thinking through the things I create in the medium of wood, whether it be sculptural, yet functional tools, beautiful furniture designs, or inspirational and challenging art work. I also want to collaborate with others in different mediums to further these ideas as well.
- Time and idea management. I love being an idea guy, but often, these new ideas always swirling around my head push out older ideas before I even have a chance to determine their validity, let alone pursue them. This also makes it easy to be distracted by things that help me shut my brain off for periods at a time, as it is exhausting some days.
- Working through some habits of procrastination due to crippling fears.
- Learning how to better communicate and market my craft and ideas to wider audience and to build a tribe that spreads this revolution at the intersection of craft, art, and necessity.
Chinese herbalist, acupuncturist, historian, philosopher, writer, teacher, relentless self improver, father, gardener and lover of living.
I own a brick and mortar clinic for massage and Chinese medicine (acupuncture + herbs) in a beautiful part of SE Portland. I am also founder and chief content creator at Deepest Health, a site for Chinese medicine students and practitioners.
I also teach at my alma mater, mostly business and Chinese herbs courses.
I work a lot, and I love my work.
I love Portland, and crow about it every chance I get – sorry if that’s annoying.
I live here with my wife (who is also my business partner at the clinic – she’s a massage therapist) and our 16 year old daughter. I’ve lived in every state West of the Rockies, and hope to do lots more traveling in my future.
I love to write, create, teach and learn. I’m always learning. I’m a relentless self improver and have a very tightly maintained productivity and organization system.
I love food, cooking, gardening, the forest, the ocean and just about everything else about this planet of ours.
I’m likely starting a PhD in the History and Philosophy of science this coming Autumn. Because I don’t have enough to do.
Eric’s ONE Big Idea:
I come here to take a step further on my path with Deepest Health, specifically. Deepest Health is dedicated to the cultivation of a worldwide community of students and practitioners of engaged, rooted Chinese medicine.
